چکیده

Red cell alloimmunisation in pregnancy may result haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn (HDN). During pregnancy, there are possibilities foetal antigen being exposed to mother’s circulation, thereby leading production antibodies. The immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies from mother pass through maternal surface placenta, which is then sensitised obstructs formation red blood cells (RBCs). This review discusses presence variance alloantibodies during as well consequences HDN its management. revealed that ABO incompatibility most common cause pregnancy. Rh system (anti-D -E) found pregnant women, followed by other such Kell, Duffy, Kidd MNSs. Hyperbilirunemia (increased bilirubin levels) commonly seen neonatal jaundice due it usually manageable using phototherapy method. Nevertheless, clinical significance can complications anaemia, some extreme cases, kernicterus might require a exchange transfusion.

Red cell alloantibodies in Lao blood donors.

Data of the prevalence of red cell alloantibodies in blood donors will assist in improving safe blood supply for patients needing transfusion. The purpose of this study was to determine prevalence of red cell alloantibodies in Lao blood donors. Antibody screening and identification by multiple phase indirect antiglobulin standard tube assay were performed in serum samples from 1,181 blood donor...

Haemolytic disease of the newborn.

A difference in the proportions of foetal (Hb-F) and adult (Hb-A) haemoglobins between normal infants and those affected by haemolytic disease due to the rhesus factor was first reported by Jonxis (1948). His work was later extended by several investigators and the differences were confirmed. The hitherto reported studies have been concerned mainly with full-term infants and it was the purpose ...

Haemolytic Disease of the Newborn*

Since the discovery of the Rh blood groups (Landsteiner and Weiner, 1940) many articles on the subject of haemolytic disease of the newborn have been written. Gilmour (1944) in this country and Potter (1944; 1946) in America have presented authoritative accounts of the pathology of haemolytic disease, but, as the former points out, this aspect of the condition has received far less attention th...

Haemolytic disease of the newborn.

I n the space of most paediatricians working lifetime, the spectrum of haemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) has changed beyond recognition. Thirty years ago, HDN was almost synonymous with Rh D allo-immunisation and was a common neonatal problem. It was usually unmodified by antenatal therapy and caused overt fetal or neonatal haemolysis, leading to marked neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia and at...
